Le Vent des Forêts, un centre d'art en milieu rural

Au cœur du département de la Meuse, en Lorraine, six villages forestiers accueillent chaque été depuis 1997, lors du Festival du Vent des Forêts, des artistes en résidence de production. Fruits de ces séjours, plus de cent vingt œuvres ont été créées le long de quarante cinq kilomètres de sentiers spécifiquement balisés et librement accessibles de mars à septembre. Articulés autour d'un thème annuel, Le Festival et ses prolongements au cours de l'année (expositions intra muros, conférences...) croisent les enjeux de l'art contemporain et un contexte rural et sylvestre

En 1997 est née l'association Le Vent des Forêts, de la rencontre d'un artiste (François Davin), de six communes (Dompcevrin, Fresnes-au-Mont, Lahaymeix, Nicey-sur-Aire, Pierrefitte-sur-Aire et Ville-devant-Belrain) et de villageois, autour d'un projet de production d'œuvres dans le massif forestier local. Initiant là une expérience unique en Meuse, les acteurs de ce projet ont su, par leur mobilisation constante, perpétuer l'esprit du Vent des Forêts, préserver son enracinement local, et ouvrir de nouvelles perspectives de développement culturel.
Tous les ans, Le Festival du Vent des Forêts accueille pendant deux semaines au mois de juillet entre sept et quinze artistes en résidence de production. Bénéficiant de l'aide potentielle de nombreux bénévoles, de la logistique de l'association, et de partenariats professionnels, chaque artiste réalise le projet pour lequel il a été sélectionné. Réalisées in situ, les œuvres jalonnent les cinq parcours tracés sur le territoire communal des six villages partenaires, dans 5000 hectares de forêt. Les artistes logent chez des habitants des villages, formule qui donne lieu à de riches échanges culturels entre eux, avec les villageois ainsi qu'avec le public nombreux venant souvent de fort loin pour vivre cette rencontre vigoureuse entre l'art contemporain et la ruralité meusienne. Chaque année, environ 25 000 visiteurs parcourent les sentiers du Vent des Forêts.
En partenariat avec Transversales, Le Festival propose aussi une programmation de spectacles et concerts. Formes théâtrales, cirque nouveau, musique du monde, chorégraphie contemporaine : les compagnies et groupes programmés, à la pointe de la créativité dans leur domaine respectifs jouent ici le jeu de la convivialité et de la simplicité dans le rapport aux publics.

Les œuvres produites demeurent sur le sentier après le départ de leur auteur. Accessibles en permanence aux visiteurs - restrictions en saison de chasse - (se renseigner à l'accueil), elles sont exposées au temps qu'il fait et au temps qui passe. Les artistes et Le Vent des Forêts assument que les œuvres ne soient pas pérennisées. 135 œuvres ont été produites depuis 1997 et l'offre artistique du Vent des Forêts est en perpétuel renouvellement.
Le Vent des Forêts s'identifie ainsi à un lieu d'expérimentation artistique, et non à un musée de sculptures en plein air. Un rapport franc et direct des œuvres avec l'environnement brut est privilégié et les conditions d'appréhension des œuvres sont intimement liées à l'expérience de la marche dans le paysage.

In the middle of the department of the Meuse, in Lorraine, six forest villages accomodate each summer since 1997, at the time of the Festival of the Wind of the Forests, of the artists in residence of production. Fruits of these stays, more than one hundred twenty works were created along forty five kilometers of paths specifically marked out and freely accessible from March to September. Every year, the Festival of the Wind of the Forests accomodates during two weeks in July between seven and fifteen artists in residence of production. Being given the potential aid the many voluntary ones, logistics of association, and professional partnerships, each artist carries out the project for which it was selected. Realized in situ, works mark out the five courses traced on the communal territory of the six villages partners, in 5000 hectares of forest. The artists place among inhabitants of the villages, formulates which gives place to rich person cultural exchanges between them, with the villagers as with the public many often coming from fort to far live this vigorous meeting between the contemporary art and rurality meusienne. Each year, approximately 25.000 visitors traverse the paths of the Wind of the Forests. In partnership with Transversals, the Festival proposes also programming of spectacles and concerts. Theatrical forms, new circus, music of the world, contemporary choreography: the programmed companies and groups, point of the creativity in their field respective play here the game of user-friendliness and simplicity in the report/ratio with the public ones. Produced works remain on the path after the departure of their author. Accessible permanently to the visitors - restrictions in season of hunting - (to get information with the reception), they are exposed to time that it makes and at the time which passes. The artists and the Wind of the Forests assume that works are not perennialized. 135 works were produced since 1997 and the artistic offer of the Wind of the Forests is in perpetual renewal. The Wind of the Forests is identified thus with a place of artistic experimentation, and not with a museum of sculptures in the open air. A frank and direct relationship of works with the rough environment is privileged and the conditions of apprehension of works are closely related to the experiment of walk in the landscape.
